We knew that rain was forecast so we had a leisurely breakfast before heading out. We travelled through Sandbanks, an affluent area where Harry and Jamie Redknapp and Liam Gallagher have had homes. We caught the chain ferry over to Studland. It was still raining but we were optimistic that it would eventually stop.
First stop was Old Harry Rocks. This was one of very few places that Graeme had never visited on his many visits to Dorset. We parked and set off on the one mile walk to the rocks. We enjoyed chatting to our fellow walkers along the way and finally arrived. See Old Harry Rocks
We got caught in a shower on the walk back to the car, but the weather then improved. Next stop was Corfe with its 11th century ruined castle. We thoroughly enjoyed wandering around this little town. We couldn't resist buying some goodies in the award-winning bakery with Belgian buns far nice than Greggs bun and much cheaper too!
Then it was on to Lulworth Cove where we had a late lunch and walk down to the cove. By now the sun was out, but we didn't fancy a swim in the sea as several others were doing.
Ever since he saw photos of us at Durdle Door in 2022, Mike had wanted to go there and today was the day. We parked the car and set off down the steep walk down to the viewpoint.
It is a most impressive sight. We had no desire to walk down the many steps to the beach and even less to walk back up again so we enjoyed the view from above and then walked back up to the car park with a couple of much needed rests on the way up.
Our journey took us past the Lulworth Camp army base and we arrived at Wareham Quay on the banks of the River Frome which looked lovely in the evening sun and we very much enjoyed a drink and a bit of a wind down.
The final stop of the day was in Poole where we walked alongside the harbour to the statue of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the scout movement. It was then back to the hotel for a rest after a very full day.
